Our Hospitality Ministry provides St. Luke's parishioners and newcomers with a warm welcome, organizing and hosting various social events throughout the year, including Sunday coffee hour after each service.  We encourage parishioners and newcomers to join us after each service for fellowship and refreshments located in Herald Hall.

A Brief History

Originally, the first services for the Episcopal Church in Plattsmouth were held at a Main Street warehouse and began in August of 1860, by the Rt. Rev. J.C. Talbot D.D., then recently consecrated Bishop of the Northwest.  Services were held once a month.  In November of 1864 the Parish was organized under the name of St. John's.  In May of 1865 the church was re-organized as St. Luke's to honor the wishes of Mrs. Joseph M. Young a generous New York benefactor who was a member of St. Luke's parish.  Her donation of $5,000 was used for the construction of the church as a memorial to her deceased husband.  Her conditional contribution required the church be named St. Luke's.  Construction began on November 27th 1865, with the corner stone being laid by Bishop Clarkson on May 12, 1866.  Bishop Clarkson consecrated the building on January 16th 1867.  In June of 1872 the Rev. Anson Rogers Graves moved to Plattsmouth to serve at St. Lukes, this was the first he served at under Bishop Clarkson, and years later in 1890 Graves became the Bishop of Nebraska.
